Description
A crowd of civilians and servicemen celebrates Victory in the Pacific (VP) Day in a city street. Others are perched on the roofs above the shops. After the announcement of Japan's surrender there were scenes of rejoicing throughout Australia. VP Day, also referred to as VJ (Victory over Japan) Day, is celebrated on 15 August. This image is from the collection of 23650 Sergeant Clifford Vernon James Potter RAAF, who served as a photographer with 8 Service Flying Training School, Bundaberg, Queensland.
