Description
Members of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) leave Central Station to march through Sydney to Fort Macquarie. At the harbour they are embarking the troopship SS Devonshire for the journey to Japan prior to service in the Korean War. Identified at the front of the march are, left to right: 2389 Captain Eric Harold Smith; 237602 Lieutenant Colonel Ian Hutchinson; and RSM Smith. Immediately behind are 3391 Major Bruce Barrington Hearn and Captain J Evans leading C Company. All officers are wearing black armbands to mark the recent death of King George VI.
