Studio portrait of 2145 Private John Alex McDonald, 6th Battalion. A farmer from Connewarre, Victoria, Pte McDonald enlisted on 21 September 1914. On 15 June 1915, Pte McDonald was recorded as wounded and missing. He was later pronounced by a Court of Enquiry as killed in action on 8 May 1915 at the Gallipolli Peninsula. Pte McDonald's remains were exhumed from the Turkish Cemetery at Pine Ridge in August 1920 and reinterred in the Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli.
