Description

A Japanese envoy meeting with Australian soldiers after the opening of surrender negotiations on 29 August 1945. The Official Japanese envoy party consisting of Major Otsu and Superior Private Takeshita crossed the Mivo River and entered the Australian lines. They were blindfolded and then taken to 3 Division Headquarters for interogation by Brigadier A.R. Garrett, Headquarters 2 Corps. After the interogation, Major Otsu and Superior Private Takeshita were taken back to the Mivo river to return with surrender instructions for Lieutenant General Kanda, 17th Japanese Army.
