Description
Remembrance postcard with printed message and small portrait of SX3225 Private (Pte) Richard Gordon Fisher, 2/27 Infantry Battalion (2/27 Bn). From Littlehampton, South Australia, he enlisted on 25 May 1940 and the battalion deployed to Egypt in late November 1940 serving in Palestine, Libya, Syria and Lebanon until January 1942. The battalion then returned to Adelaide briefly until deploying to Port Moresby in August 1942. By early September 2/27 Bn was in action on the Kokoda Trail until forced to withdraw to the Port Moresby area by 22 September 1942. Pte Fisher died of disease on 7 October 1942. He is buried at the Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery, Papua New Guinea. He was aged 24 years.
