Description

39 page manuscript entitled "CMJ Memoirs August 1940 to end WW11". Manuscript details much of the service of C.M. Johnson during the Second World War, with the majority of the text being on his capture and escape from the German forces in Greece. The manuscript details the experiences of CM Johnson on transport to the Middle East, Service in Greece in 1941 with information on the use of Anti-Tank guns included. The manuscript details the capture and experiences of CM Johnson as a POW under the Germans in April and May 1941. The majority of the text details the planning, and escape of CM Johnson and several other prisoners, only listed by first name, from the Camp near Thermopylae. The evasion of the party is detailed included work they undertook with Greek civilians to pay for food and transport. The later phases of the escape are explained with less detail, explaining the process of travelling through turkey to reach Syria and rejoin Australian forces. The manuscript then briefly summaries some of the Johnson's experiences of postings to Australia in 1942 and 1944 as well as his service in New Guinea between those postings and the end of the war.
