Studio portrait of 359 Private (Pte) Randolph Adamson, 35th Battalion. Prior to enlistment at the age of 18, Adamson served in the cadets, as well as for a month or two in the Citizen Military Forces. An apprentice coach builder in Glen Oak, NSW, before he enlisted, he embarked from Sydney with his unit aboard HMAT Benalla (A24) on 1 May 1916. Pte Adamson was killed in action at the battle of Messines on 7 June 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
