Training For War: The Third division A.I.F. at Lark Hill, 1916
46 page manuscript. The manuscript examines the experiences of Australian troops of the Third Division AIF in training at Lark Hill before serving in France. The first chapter examines the formation of the division and their preliminary training in Australia. Chapter two looks at the nature of life at Lark hill for Australian servicemen. Chapter three looks at the nature of small unit training conducted at lark hill. Chapter four examines the larger unit training conducted, that at brigade and divisional level. The final chapter assesses the effectiveness of the training that was conducted, including assessment by the commanding officers and the men who experienced the training. Three appendices are included: Appendix 1 contains a map of Lark Hill camp, Appendix 2 shows a detailed map of Codford training camp and Appendix 3 is a map of the various rifle ranges on Salisbury plain in the area around Lark Hill.
