Informal outdoor portrait of a group of 2/10 Battalion soldiers enjoying a morning tea break. Identified standing from left to right are: SX22 Private (Pte) Staunton Bailes from Norwood, South Australia (later killed in action on 27 December 1942 in Papua New Guinea); SX1251 Pte Philip Malcolm Hogben from Royston Park, South Australia (later discharged on 28 January 1944); and SX422 Private (Pte) Edward John Edwards from Stockport, South Australia (later promoted to Sergeant and killed in action on 27 August 1942 at Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea). Seated on the ground from left to right are: possibly SX24215 Sapper Albert Roy Read from Croydon, South Australia (later discharged on 14 September 1945); SX11057 Pte Antony Mortimer King from Norwood (later discharged on 11 January 1944); SX553 Pte Clement Fenica Killeen from Broken Hill, NSW (later discharged 11 April 1944); SX5895 Lance Corporal Clifford Eric Schloithe from Renmark, South Australia (later promoted to Corporal and died of wounds near Buna, Papua New Guinea on 1 January 1943); and SX11856 Pte Robert Joseph Molloy from Broken Hill (later killed in action near Buna, Papua New Guinea on 28 December 1942). The handwritten note on the reverse of the image reads “The gang having morning brew – coffee & milk. L to R standing: S (Snow) Bailes, P M (Loaping Larry) Hogben, E J (Dagwood) Edwards.
