Studio portrait of 5415 Private (Pte) Albert Ernest Maynard, 1st Battalion. A labourer from Golspie, NSW, he embarked with the 17th Reinforcements on 14 April 1916 aboard HMAT Ceramic (A49). In May 1916 he was transferred to the 14th Training Battalion, joining the 53rd Battalion later that year. In December 1916 he was admitted to the 1st Casualty Clearing Station, France, with pneumonia. He died of disease on 24 December 1916, aged 20.
