Collection relating to the Second World War service of three brothers from the Ghiggioli family: NX36559 Lance Corporal Ernest Keith Ghiggioli, VX125638 Private Thomas Francis Ghiggioli, and VX109089 Private Edward Arthur Ghiggioli, 1941-1945.

Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of correspondence and documents relating to the brothers' service. The majority of the items relate to Lance Corporal Ernest Ghiggioli of 1 Independent Company, who became a prisoner of war of the Japanese in Rabaul, and died at sea when the Montevideo Maru was sunk off the coast of the Philippines on 1 July 1942. Items include three original letters handwritten by Ernest Ghiggioli to his family, letters and information from the Red Cross Bureau for Wounded, Missing & Prisoners of War, the Australian Military Forces Records Office, and the Department of Veterans' Affairs, and a commemorative scroll. Some of the letters have sections removed by the censor. The collection also comprises an original letter and illustrated Xmas greeting card, both written in 1945 by Private Thomas Ghiggioli, 13 Australian Line Section, as well as an illustrated greeting card Xmas 1942, sent by Private Edward Ghiggioli, Headquarters, 4th Brigade.
