Chestnutt, Sandra
Collection relating to the United Nations Mission in East Timor (UNAMET) service of Sandra Chestnutt, District Electoral Officer, 1999.
Wallet 1 of 1 consists of Sandra Chestnutt's UNAMET identification card, District Electoral Officer pass, counting centre staff pass, and transport authorisation pass which allowed Chestnutt to operate United Nations vehicles in East Timor. Chestnutt served with UNAMET as a District Electoral Officer in Ermera, in western East Timor. UNAMET was established on 11 June 1999 to organise, conduct and supervise the referendum, held on 30 August, to allow the East Timorese to choose between autonomy within Indonesia or independence.
After her time with UNAMET, Chestnutt served as a Public Services Officer with the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) from 1999 to 2001. She was also Provincial Coordinator Civil Registration in Cambodia in 2004, oversaw elections in Liberia in 2005 and again in Timor-Leste in 2007, and spent two years in South Sudan with the Darfur Australia Network.
