"Brumfitt and Ogden. 1st Pioneers, 1917. Killed 1918" [original caption]. Studio portrait believed to be of 3713 Private (Pte) Charles Thomas Brumfitt, and 2274 Private George Robert Odgen of the 1st Pioneer Battalion. Pte Brumfitt enlisted in October 1915 and embarked with the 2nd Battalion, 12th Reinforcements on board HMAT Medic (A7). He was transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion in June 1916 and returned to Australia in December 1918. Pte Ogden enlisted in May 1915 and embarked with the 4th Battalion, 6th Reinforcements on board HMAT Karoola (A63). He was transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion in March 1916 and returned to Australia in May 1918 where he was discharged as medically unfit in October 1918.
