History / Summary

Worn by Raeburn Lyall Trindall, a cinematographer with the Commonwealth Film Unit, during his service in Vietnam. The boots had been purchased by him at an Australian disposal store in the early 1960s and had been worn on various asignments in tropical areas. Although he was issued with standard Australian army GP boots with steel plates on arrival in Vietnam, they proved to be half a size too small so he these boots instead. Trindall used them on a nmuber of other assignments post-Vietnam.

Three members of the Unit: Malcolm Smith, director; Raeburn Trindall, cinematographer and photographer; and Howard Spry, sound recordist, visited Vietnam in October 1968 to shoot footage to be used in productions for the RAAF Golden Years 50th anniversary celebrations.
