Outdoor portrait of 6776 Private (Pte) William George Hendry, 16th Battalion. A miner from Collie, Western Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 22nd Reinforcements from Fremantle on 9 November 1916 aboard HMAT Argyllshire (A8) for Devonport, England. After training in England he proceeded to France and was transferred to the 32nd Battalion on the Western Front near Bernafay. Pte Hendry was wounded in action near Ypres, Belgium, on 22 October 1917 and died of these wounds later that day. He was aged 41 years.
