Studio portrait of 1336 Vivian Roland Rule, Australian Army Medical Corps Contingent. Following service in the Boer War, Rule returned to South Australia, married and had two children, served with the Citizens' Military Forces (CMF) and was employed as a bricklayer in Prospect. On 10 July 1916, he re-enlisted as 479 Private (Pte) Rule and embarked with the 5th Reinforcements of the 48th Battalion from Adelaide on 28 August 1916 aboard HMAT Anchises (A68). He was taken on strength in France in February 1917 and discharged on 18 October 1917. See also P09366.012.
