Studio portrait of 2565 Private (Pte) Leonard Hilton, 42nd Battalion, of Eton, Qld; formerly of Oldham, England. A labourer prior to enlisting in April 1916, Pte Hilton embarked from Brisbane with the 5th Reinforcements on board HMAT Kyarra (A55) on 17 November 1916. He was killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium, on 12 October 1917. Pte Hilton was 23 years of age.
