Studio portrait of 675 Private (Pte) David Charles McDonald, 32nd Battalion. A farmer from Hallett, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 1st Reinforcements from Adelaide aboard HMAT Geelong on 18 November 1915 for Suez. He was transferred to the 8th Machine Gun Company in March 1916. His battalion relocated to the Western Front, France, during June 1916. Pte McDonald was wounded in action on the Somme in late October 1916 and died of these wounds in the 36th Casualty Clearing Station on 2 November 1916. He was aged 20 years.
