Studio portrait of 4856 Private (Pte) William Ranclaud, 10th Battalion. A clerk from Wallaroo, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Adelaide on 9 March 1916 aboard RMS Mongolia for Egypt. On 20 May 1916 he was transferred to the 50th Battalion and eventually joined his new battalion on the Western Front near Albert, France, in early September 1916. Pte Ranclaud was killed in action near Noreuil, France, on 2 April 1917. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. He was aged 20 years.
