Description

A delivery to the butchery in the Holsworthy internment camp, known as the 'German Concentration Camp', during the First World War. Rations were supplied to the camp by the Australian Service Corps. Holsworthy camp was the largest internment camp in Australia during the First World War. The camp held between 4000 and 5000 internees. Most were either from the Austro-Hungarian empire, staff of German companies temporarily living in Australia, crews of vessels caught in Australian ports as well as naturalised and native born Australians of German descent. Holsworthy Camp remained open until the last internees were deported in 1920.
