Australian Defence Force flying suit
Olive drab Nomex standard issue Australian Defence Force flying suit. The suit has a soft stand and fall collar, reinforced shoulders and a front zipper opening with a twin ended zip fastener running from neck to crutch. There are four ventilation holes under each arm. The suit has two angled breast pockets; a side opening pocket on the upper right arm with an attached small additional pocket to hold pens or markers, covered with a Velcro flap; two pockets on each thigh, one with a vertical opening and one with a horizontal opening; a pocket on each calf with a horizontal opening and a pocket set into each side seam below the waist. All have zipper closures.
There are vertical zipper fastenings at the ankle openings, and Velcro with Nomex tabs for size adjustment at the waist and cuffs. Velcro patches are sewn above the breast pockets and on the upper right sleeve to take name, unit and national badges (none of which are present). An olive green nylon panel on the right leg has fittings and pockets to hold survival equipment. A manufacturer's label is sewn inside the back neck, 'ADI 1993 [broad arrow symbol] 8415-66-131-9689'. A partly legible name and service number is written on the label, possibly for 'DAVIES?'.
The history of this suit is unknown. Flying suits of this type were standard issue for crews of rotary wing aircraft.
