Honiara: Rove Patrol
Description
The artist visited Rove Prison several times and on one trip there had been a rotation with new Australian peacekeepers on patrol. De Medici observed, "Their replacements were most charming & polite men, intelligent & hospitable". Keen to begin a drawing, she recalled "the boys set up a tarp for me to work under as the rain started within minutes of me staring a picture. I was nice and cool. I started a watercolour of one of the guys reading in a hammock strung up between the spotted trees. I was coolish. Nice break from the infernal humidity."
