Description
Guadalcanal Beach Resort (GBR) is the main base for the military and police forces of the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). It was an American base during the Second World War and is situated across the road from Henderson Airport. When returning from a patrol, soldiers are required to scrub their clothes and equipment to safeguard against pests, in particular hookworm eggs. The artist visited the Solomon Islands during the wettest weeks of the year. This work features rain pelting down in the background.
