St Stephen's Peace and Victory Fair fundraising badge : Miss R Cambridge
Pressed tin, paper and celluloid badge in blue and white, featuring the words 'St Stephen's Richmond / Peace and Victory Fair / Nov 20 - 2?' (effaced). A stickpin fitting is attached to the reverse.
Part of a collection of badges which were collected by Miss Ruth Cambridge, daughter of a Boer War veteran, probably Private Owen Cambridge, First Victorian Contingent.
Nothing specific is known of St Stephen's Peace and Victory Fair of 1918. It was held just 9 days after the signing of the Armistice on 11 November and in the wake of riotous celebrations in and around central Melbourne. St Stephen's was the original Church of England church at Richmond, built in the early 1850s and, apparently, with close associations to the Cambridge family, who may have been involved in its building.
