Description
Studio portrait of 5148 Private (Pte) Leslie John Mannix, 16th Reinforcements of the 2nd Battalion (later 54th Battalion). A tailor from Erskineville, NSW, Pte Mannix was aged 26 when he enlisted in January 1916. He saw service on the Western Front but was hospitalised suffering from trench foot in December 1916. He was returned to Australia and discharged as medically unfit, suffering from pyelitis and trench foot in September 1917. His brothers 1797 Sapper Roy Celsus Mannix and 1703 Trooper Francis Patrick Mannix both served with the 6th Light Horse in Egypt and returned to Australia in 1919 (see P09228.001 and .004)
