History / Summary

During the Second World War, Joyce Terkelsen volunteered to collect funds for the Red Cross. These funds were used to send care packages to Australians who were prisoners of war.

Joyce collected in the suburb of Chelmer, next to Graceville, Brisbane, Qld. Her main area of collection was Rosebery Terrace. Each house that was contributing had a Red Cross plaque on the front gate.

Joyce lived with her mother, Thelma and her great uncle and aunt, Leonard and Irene Don until 1951, when she married Terrance Adolphus Brook.
