Description
Within a perspex box with a hessian covered board base: A painting on a thin piece of plywood of people on three escalators running in different diagonal directions, with a floral background. The painting has pencil markings around it that indicate ruled centimetres, and an inscription in the upper left corner 'MA'. A piece of paper with a pattern reading 'BOLIVAR / HABANA' is adhered to one edge of the plywood.
With these works, Lynn Collins was trying make protest art that was visual, timely, progressive but also alluring. Flowers are a motif that is used in each of the eight boxes of 'Museum piece no. 1' In this piece, the lush background is being obliterated by an image of machinery and dull people.
