Bramwell, Francis James Michael (Private, b.1916)
Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX120833 Private Francis James Michael (Frank) Bramwell, 57/60th Australian Infantry Battalion, AIF. Collection consists of one original handwritten letter from Private Bramwell to his brother Dan (VX66936 Craftsman Daniel John Bramwell), dated 7 November 1943. Also consists of one typed copy and a carbon copy of a letter written by Captain Ronald Munro Martin recounting the circumstances of Bramwell's death, as well as the theft of some of his belongings. Working as a boot maker before enlistment, Private Bramwell was killed in action (KIA) 1 February 1944 when caught in an ambush while on active service in New Guinea.
