Typed and bound manuscript, 'The fortunate war of Lieutenant Roy Ford', by Rodney N. Ford.

The manuscript is an account of the service of Roy Leonard Ford (QX19174, Lieutenant) during the Second World War. Ford initially joined the Citizens Military Forces on 1 July 1939 as a member of the 9th Battalion. He joined the 2nd Australian Imperial Force on 12 May 1941, and first joined the 11th Training Battalion. In January 1942 he was commissioned as a Lieutenant, and joined the 2/2 Machine Gun Battalion. He was deployed to New Guinea, and became commander of 4 Platoon, A Company, New Guinea Force Machine Gun Battalion. This battalion was later formed into the 7th Machine Gun Battalion, and was, in January 1943, deployed to Milne Bay. He returned to Australian in August 1943, but was later posted to the 61st Infantry Battalion as commander of a machine gun platoon. In October 1944 he was deployed to Bougainville. He was discharged from the 2nd AIF on 26 February 1946, and later served as a Lieutenant in the Citizens Military Force from May 1952 to May 1955 in the 9th Battalion. The manuscript also describes Ford's post-war life.
