Studio portrait of 185 Pte (later Cpl) William Aaron Stalling, 36th Battalion, of Tenterfield, NSW, son of Frederick Augustus and Elizabeth Anne Stalling, brother of 184 Pte Robert John Stallling (RTA) and 1910 Pte Edwin Rupert Stalling (DOW). A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Beltana (A72) on 13 May 1916. He was killed in action on 12 October 1917, in Belgium, aged 27. He is buried in the Tyne Cot Cemetery Passchendaele, Belgium.
