Studio portrait of 2576 Pte Charles James Cartwright, 26th (later 12th) Battalion, of West Maitland, NSW, son of Charles and Elizabeth Cartwright, of East Greta, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Seang Bee (A48) on 21 October 1915. He was killed in action in France on 12 November 1916, aged 29. He is buried in the A I F Burial Ground Grass Lane Flers, France.
