German army other ranks shoulder strap : 2nd Guard Grenadier Regiment
Description
Field grey wool shoulder strap with narrow red wool piping around the sides and top, and a machine stitched button hole at the neck end. A red wool crown with three segments surmounted by a small cross is appliqued to the strap, above an ornate red Russia braid 'A'.
History / Summary
The history of this strap is unknown. Single shoulder straps were routinely removed from dead or captured Germans for intelligence purposes, so that the names of the German units opposing the Allied forces could be established.
