Studio portrait of 142 Private (Pte) John James Beckham, C Company, 24th Battalion, of Geelong, Vic. An orchardist prior to enlistment he embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Euripides (A14) on 10 May 1916. He was taken on strength and transferred to 6th Light Australian Trench Mortar Battery on 11 May 1917. Pte Beckham was killed in action at Passchendaele on 4 October 1917. He is buried at the Hooge Crater Cemetery, Zillebeke, Belgium.
