Studio portrait of 4194 Private Horace Hilton Thoroughgood, 1st Pioneer Battalion of Auburn, NSW. A baker prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Beltana (A72) on 16 June 1917. He was killed in action, while returning to camp, on 25 August 1918 at St Martin's Wood, near Bray, France, aged 31. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
