Studio portrait of 6090 Private Arthur Sheppard, 4th Battalion of Auburn, NSW. A carpenter prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Wiltshire (A18) on 22 August 1916. On 9 January 1917, he died of wounds in the No. 1. General Hospital, Etretat, France, aged 32. He was wounded in action on 2 January 1917 near Flers, France. Pte. Sheppard is buried in Etretat Churchyard Extension, France.
