Description

Studio portrait of 2875 (later 2875A) Private Robert Emmett Kinchington, 1st Pioneer (later 3rd) Battalion of Waverly, NSW. An engineer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Borda (A30) on 17 October 1916. He died from influenza on 6 February 1919 in Killarney, Ireland, aged 25. He is buried in Killarney New Cemetery, Republic of Ireland. Pte Robert Kinchinton was one of 5 brothers who served during the war. He is the brother of 2707A Pte Jack Thomas Kinchington, who was killed in action at Polygon Wood, Belgium on 26 September 1917, Lieutenant Patrick Kinchington, MM, 6823 Pte Vincent Kinchington and 986 Corporal James Timothy Conmee, MM.
