Studio portrait of 2277 Private Leslie Albert Bale, 35th Battalion of Granville, NSW. A wood turner prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Borda (A30) on 17 October 1916. He was wounded in action on 7 June 1917 at Messines Ridge, France and died at the 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, France on 13 June 1917, aged 23. He is buried in the Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, France.
