M2A2 105 mm Howitzer
The M2A2 105 millimetre howitzer is a general purpose, towed, light field artillery weapon. The breech is manually operated, using a horizontal sliding wedge block. The gun is self cocking, and fired by pulling a lanyard. The barrel is air-cooled and uses semi-fixed ammunition. The carriage has a single axle and split trail. The trails are divided for firing and drawn together and locked during travel. The recoil mechanism is a hydro- pneumatic type shock absorber system which is installed in the cradle of the carriage. The gun is painted olive drab.
Serial Number: 17172 (recoil mechanism); Serial Number: 10913 (carriage).
The M2A2 105 millimetre howitzer was the standard artillery weapon used by most field regiments of the Royal Australian Artillery (RAA) during the Vietnam conflict.
