Description
RAAF Forward Air Controller (FAC) in Vietnam, O221393 Flying Officer (FO) Richard Neil (Dick) Kelloway, stands beside his spotter aircraft, a Cessna 01 Birddog, at the Vung Tau airfield, 35 miles south east of Saigon. Only recently arrived in the country, FO Kelloway, 24 of Dee Why, NSW, will spend six months as FAC, directing airstrikes and marking enemy positions from his single-engined unarmed aircraft. The FAC's work is often carried out under heavy enemy ground fire.
