Francis, Eoin Samuel (Flying Officer, b.1924-d.1945)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of 417704 Flying Officer Eoin Samuel Francis, Royal Australian Air Force, attached to 622 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Norfolk, United Kingdom, 1945.
Collection consists of one letter and envelope from Flying Officer Francis to 39126 Sergeant John 'Jack' Henry Royston Klinger, dated 1 January 1945. In his letter, Flying Officer Francis writes about his experience of a very foggy Christmas day in which they could not fly back to their home base. He shares that the officers (himself included) were fed a very good Christmas dinner, while the non-commissioned officers were given nothing. He then goes on to say that, due to continuing foggy weather, they were not able to return to their home base until 27 December 1944. Flying Officer Francis concludes by telling Jack that he hopes that they would be able to fly together someday.
Flight Officer Eoin Samuel Francis died in a flying battle over Germany on 6 January 1945.
