Description
Collection relating to the Royal Australian Navy service of 2500 Able Seaman Joseph (Joe) Bruce Landseer Brown whilst serving aboard HMAS Australia from 30 July 1914 to 9 December 1915. Brown writes regular daily entries, some quite detailed, describing places visited and events that occured in German New Guinea, the South Pacific, South America, the United Kingdom and the North Sea. Collection also includes a spiral bound work completed by Brown's daughter, Dorothy Belcher, containing a typed transcription of the diary, copies of 2 photographs, and some additional biographical information about Brown's life.
