Composite portrait titled 'A story without words'
Composite portrait titled 'A story without words'. During a First World War fundraising event, Eunice Emily Eveline Bryant and her cousin, Bert (Bertie) Betts, were winners of a Red Cross Ball Fancy Dress competition. Eunice wore a replica uniform of a Red Cross nurse while Bert was dressed as Lord Kitchener, complete with medals. Their theme and costumes were so inspiring that the children were photographed individually and then acting out a scenario of a nurse tending to an injured soldier. Postcards were produced which successfully raised more funds for the Red Cross. Eunice and Bertie participated in several children's fancy dress balls in the Perth area, raising money for such groups as the Red Cross, the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund and the Leederville Town Band. Bert Betts went on to serve in the Second World War.
