RAAF Operation Falconer patch
RAAF Operation Falconer patch. The patch is circular and has Velcro backing. The outer edge of the badge has a brown cotton border, with an inner circle also in brown cotton. Between the circles is embroidered in brown 'ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE / OPERATION FALCONER'. Within the centre of the patch is an embroidered, sand coloured, stylised falcon, with a brown outline. Above the falcon are two seven pointed stars, embroidered in brown cotton. The background of the patch is tan coloured nylon.
Patch worn by RAAF personnel during their deployment to Iraq as part of Operation Falconer, the Australian contribution to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. The RAAF contingent included; 14 F/A-18 Hornets with ground support from 75 Squadron, three C-130H Hercules aircraft and 150 support personnel from 36 Squadron, and two AP-3C Orion aircraft and 150 support personnel. 75 Squadron flew 350 operational sorties and dropped 122 Laser Guided Bombs, 36 Squadron flew logistics and combat support missions, and the 2 Orion aircraft flew electronic intelligence (ELINT) operations in the region.
