Studio portrait of QX14968 Corporal (Cpl) Stephen Porter, 2/30th Battalion, of Milton, NSW. Enlisting on 18 July 1940, he sailed with the main component of the 2/30th to Singapore at the end of July 1941. Following the Japanese invasion of Singapore in early 1942, Cpl Porter was taken Prisoner of War (POW). On 16 September 1943, Cpl Porter died of illness, aged 48, in Siam (Thailand).
