Studio portrait of NX68076 Sapper(Spr) Allan Reginald Baker, 2/12 Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers, of Rockdale, NSW. Spr Baker enlisted on 31 January 1941. He became a prisoner of war (POW) of the Japanese and was selected from a camp in Thailand to be a member of a work party to be transferred to Japan. Spr Baker was killed when the Japanese prison ship in which he was travelling, the Rakuyo Maru, was sunk by the United States Navy submarine USS Pampanito on 12 September 1944. He was aged 26.
