Studio portrait of 418211 Flying Officer (FO) Henry Hume Turnbull RAAF, Observer of 461 Squadron of Prahran, Victoria. he enlisted on 25 April 1942 and attended No 1 Initial Training School (1ITS) at Somers then an Observers course at Wagga Wagga, NSW. He graduated in December 1942 and was sent to Canada with the Empire Air Training Scheme for further training as a Navigator. He was then posted to 461 Squadron RAAF, which was equipped with Sunderland aircraft. He was lost on operations off Bergen, Norway, on 1 October 1944. He was a member of FO Herbert Marshall (Marsh) Godsall's crew in aircraft ML735 which was attacked by three ME 110s causing the aircraft to crash into the sea. FO Turnbull was aged 21 years.
