Large blackout headlight cover
Description
Large black blackout cover, consisting of a circular backing plate attached by tabs to a cylinder which is fitted with three hooded slots. Painted black.
History / Summary
Unknown. Headlight covers were compulsory for both military and civilian vehicles in Australia from late 1941 until the end of 1943, when both the threat of invasion had diminished, and the startling increase in night-time vehicle accidents, especially in nothern Australia where their use was considered critical, caused their use to be curtailed. This is a military pattern example in a large size.
