Description
'"Hurry Up... and Wait": An autobiography of thirty years service in the Australian Army Reserve, at home, and overseas." In Book 1 Mayes describes his early days, his experiences as a National Service recruit at Wacol, Queensland, his civilian and military life at Maryborough and Mackay, his role in the Citizens Military Force and activities in various army training camps and military operations in Australia and New Guinea between 1950 and 1972. In Book 2 Mayes describes his posting with the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation in Palestine, 1972-1974, and continues with a description of his life in the Australian Army Reserve and his involvement with the School Cadets until his retirement in 1990.
