Informal group portrait of D Company, 18th Battalion, at Liverpool Camp, NSW. Amongst this group is 1287 Private (Pte) Leonard Stevenson Taylor, of Petersham, NSW. Pte Taylor, a carpenter prior to enlistment, embarked with the 18th Battalion on board HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 25 June 1915. He was wounded in action shortly after the 18th Battalion landed at Anzac Cove, Gallipoli, on 22 August 1915. He died of his wounds at St Ignatius Hospital, Malta on 22 October 1915. He was 24 years of age. Also present, but unidentified, in the front row, is Second Lieutenant (2nd Lt) Wilfred Emmett Addison, a bank accountant of Sydney, NSW. 2nd Lt Addison was also killed in action at Gallipoli on 22 August 1915. He was 28 years of age. The other officers in the front row, exact position unidentified, are 2nd Lt Harold Ashfield Roberts and 2nd Lt Arthur Jack Rafferty. Third from the left, front row, is Lieutenant (Lt) Frederick Harold Waugh Robinson; fourth from left is Captain (Capt) Leo John Fitzpatrick.
