Portrait of NX10420 Private (Pte) Robert S Goulden, 8th Divisional Reinforcements, Australian Army Medical Corps (AAMC), with his wife, Agnes "Virginia" Goulden (nee Carlson). A native of Lakemba, NSW, Goulden enlisted on 13 May 1941. Shortly after being taken a Prisoner of War (POW) of the Japanese in Singapore, Pte Goulden was executed for attempting to escape a camp in Burma on 12 July 1942. He died never knowing that Agnes had borne him a son, Howard.
